Shannon wrote, “About 2 days before we left on the cruise, I had a genius moment and decided to bring Operation Beautiful along. I do not know why it had not crossed my mind sooner because it was the most perfect fit ever! I had over 10 women participating!” They left notes for each other, cruise staff, and strangers. You can read all about Shannon’s experience on her blog – it’s a worthwhile read!
Kate wrote, “My 16-year-old daughter has enlisted the help of at least 36 friends and teachers at her high school today to spread the Operation Beautiful message. We both think it’s great what everyone involved with Operation Beautiful is doing and truly appreciate each of you for this "beautiful" movement!”’
Madoka wrote, “I entered a singing contest on a Japanese You Tube-like site early last year, and was shocked to see that while most user comments were about my singing, many were also about how I looked – and they were mean. Anonymous individuals saying I was fat, ugly, disgusting, and how "the singing was good but the appearance was not," and how the video was amazing if they closed their eyes and only listened etc etc – was a lot for me to handle. I cried a lot. It was devastating. But then, one day, I decided I’d had enough, and had to choose between believing what the people who love me say about me, and believing what heartless, anonymous people whom I’ve never met before say about me… I chose the former, that I was lovable, worthy, and a beautiful person. I still have a lot of beauty and self-esteem issues to go through, but I know that when I get out, I will be a stronger person. I also wrote this song to help me along the way:”
Eliza wrote, “I was at a Bridgeport Sound Tigers game, and I was bored during the first period. I ran into the bathroom and stuck up an operation beautiful note. When I came back a period later, I thought it had disappeared. I put up a new one to make up for it. Then, I looked into the mirror and saw something pink on the last stall’s door. I looked at it. It was my note! Someone moved it. At the end of the game, one note had disappeared, but the other was still on the stall’s door, even though all the stalls were closed for the night. I was so happy.”
Alice wrote, “I tweeted the link to all my followers, to let them know how beautiful each and every one of them are!”
Heather B. wrote, “I put up this cute new note, but when I went to the bathroom after lunch (when I usually hang up more notes), I was disappointed to see it was gone. I looked down and saw it crumpled on the floor. I was mad and frustrated that someone would be such a hater. I picked it up off of the floor, smoothed out as many wrinkles as I could, and put it back up on the mirror. I decided that was the best I could do and started to turn to leave when a group of girls went to the sink and one saw my revived note and said "I wonder who is putting those notes up. They really make my day." My anger from the crumpled note disappeared instantly. I was so excited to hear her say that; it made the rest of MY day.”
Adalia wrote, “I started posting stickey notes at the mall, bathrooms, and in stores. I went back to look at some and noticed that people were actually responding to them. I was amazing!”
Melissa from Project Bare posted these notes in dressing rooms:
Savi wrote, “I just found the Operation Beautiful site and it was such an inspiration to me. I found out about the site through a note someone put up at a grocery store in the bathroom. I’ve always had a problem with my self image, and this really helped me a lot. This is the message I put on the mirror in my high school bathroom. I had to write it in pencil on a paper towel cause I didn’t have paper and a pen!”
If you love Operation Beautiful and want to participate, post a note, take a picture, and e-mail it to Caitlin at seebriderun@gmail.com. Spread the love!
