Tuesday Notes – August 31, 2010

Katherine wrote, “I think the idea behind Operation Beautiful is absolutely wonderful. I’m a 19 year old college student who can relate to the struggles of trying to fit in in today’s society. I think we feel the pressure to be perfect and sometimes we forget that it’s not possible. We are truly perfect and beautiful the way we are. Sometimes we forget that the women we see in magazines are so retouched and perfected that many do not look remotely close to what is perceived. We live in a world where the pressure to be perfect is so high that we often beat ourselves to the ground trying to achieve this unrealistic expectation.  The fashion and Hollywood world have created this monster in what the perception of beauty is "supposedly". The effect that it has on women as well as men can be absolutely devastating. It’s so wonderful knowing that there are people like you in this world that want to make a difference. It’s important that we learn to love ourselves and accept ourselves for the way we are. I came across this little note the other day in a hair salon in Orlando, Fl. It put the biggest smile on my face and it really did cheer me up.”

Updated to add:  Jenn wrote in to say the note above is HERS!  She said, “I’m pretty sure that the note in the first photo is mine. I cant find a picture of it, but I remember writing one like that and putting it in last minute (in the "beautified" magazine). I have no idea how it got to a hair salon… I guess someone passed it on!” :)

Rachel wrote, “My grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday this week. I decided my first note would be left attached to an arrangement of flowers someone had sent her. After that, I snapped a picture, uploaded it, and tagged all of my Facebook friends in it for a sweet and uplifting surprise!!!”

Did you post this note?  Renee wrote, “I saw this note in the second floor ladies room in one of the buildings at the University of Pennsylvania!”

Katie wrote, “Today I posted one at the doctor’s office. I felt really good about myself. What made me happy was a lady who was mentally challenged walked back from the bathroom with a smile on her face, and told whoever she was with about the note in the bathroom. I turned around and smiled, and turned back around. Nice to know I made someone’s day.”

Kat wrote, “Thanks for a wonderful lunchtime reading experience.  It really made my
day and was a good reminder to stop my "stinkin’ thinkin’."  Only positive self talk from now on, promise. I just had to participate and go sneak a post it into the ladies’ room.I’m looking forward to hearing the ‘word’ around the office and seeing people’s reactions.”

Abby wrote, “Operation Beautiful is amazing!  I think all girls, from grade school up to adulthood, are always judging themselves: too heavy, too much acne, and the list goes on.  Sure, every once in a while, I do the same thing, but I try not to because everybody is beautiful in their own special way.  I can’t grip why people would ever think otherwise. When people criticize themselves, I just want them to know that they are truly beautiful.”

Jill wrote, “I posted this in a restaurant today. As a single 35-year old, i wanted to remind ladies that they are a catch and to not get down on themselves.”

Karin wrote, “I’ve been up all night reading the little bits of stuff on here and it’s made me feel so much better. I’m going through a rough time and even reading that people out there can say that someone else is beautiful puts a smile on my face.”

Got my very own copy of the Operation Beautiful book in the mail today. So honoured to find my name and words in there. Brightened my whole week and gave me a whole new determination to post.
