Saturday Notes – July 11, 2009

A Message from Caitlin: If you love Operation Beautiful, be sure to participate by posting a note, taking a picture, and e-mailing it to me at seebriderun@gmail.com  It takes a few days for the picture to show up on the site, so stay tuned!

Allyn wrote, "After reading about Operation Beautiful on SparkPeople.com, I felt compelled to leave a note in the bathroom of my office building. There are a lot of women on our floor, all from various businesses, and since we work in a technology center, a lot of us are kind of "geeky". We are not all the portrait of traditional beauty, yet I think we are all wonderful – and I thought I needed to post a reminder to our bathroom mirror!  Here is the picture. One of my co-workers recognized the handwriting as mine, and has already told me that she plans to continue Operation Beautiful notes on her own. This site is amazing – such a little gesture can go such a long way!"

Jodi from Small Changes Add Up posted notes in her bathroom at work.  She said, "Not only do we, as women, need to be nicer and more accepting of ourselves, I think we need to be nicer and more accepting of others.  How often do you hear women say nasty things about other women — "I can’t believe she’s wearing that!"  or "Did you see the size of her … ?"  Hopefully, as we try to inspire others to love themselves, they will remember to love others too.  In this world, we can’t be each other’s enemy."  She posted this note on her blog:

Tabby wrote, "I posted a few notes last night!  The first one I posted was in a Starbucks bathroom, the second was outside by a fountain and it said You are bursting with beauty like this fountain, and the last was inside the bathroom at Harris Teeter!  I hope some people see these messages, check out your website and continue to spread the message throughout the Northern VA area!"

Martha wrote, "I emailed the following to many of the  women in my email list!"

You are Beautiful just the way you are!!!!!!! 

Mags wrote, "I left this on one of the whiteboards at my university’s library. One of the librarians asked me what I was doing, and I told her I was just writing down a friendly reminder to anyone who comes by. It was still there the next week, so I guess she thought it was worth reminding people too.   I love the project, and wanted to thank you for the initiative. It means a tonne to me, and I guess it must have meant something to the cleaning crew and the librarians too, considering they left it there!"

Jenna wrote, "I put it on a little sticky note in my younger sister’s phone, so when she opened it she would see it. I wrote "You are beautiful no matter what and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise." She kinda laughed at it for a bit and then smiled, she was really appreciative that I wrote that to her. It made my day but also her day and put a nice smile on her face. She now put the sticky note up on her mirror in her room!"

Maggie took this photo of herself, posted it on Facebook, and tagged 50 of her friends!

Kirsten wrote, "I wrote and left this note in a Japanese/Korean restaurant’s ladies room (by the sink). I didn’t happen to have any paper with me, so I just ripped a bit off of a nearby paper towel and wrote on that.  I was actually not feeling so confident myself at the time. Somehow, seeing the bathroom mirror reminded me of all the photos on Operation Beautiful, and so I made this note and left it by the sink."

Liz wrote, "Another one from me, again on a bathroom mirror at Santa Monica College.  This time I used lyrics from my favorite Beatles song "Dear Prudence":  "The sun is up, the sky is blue, it’s beautiful and so are you."
