Dear noname - my mom had the same issue for years. I watched her put up with an abusive boyfriend, spending years so unhappily. It made me determined not to need a male. It's really hard. Who do you go out to dinner with? I found friends at work and at my gym - gym friends are full of energy =). Find something you love: dancing, kickboxing, knitting, reading, and find friends who do it too. Your friends will love you and show you that you are worth love for yourself.

If you can, be whole:
Modifications of “20 Ways to Love Your Body” Courtesy of NEDA and Margo Maine, Ph.D.

Twenty Ways to Love Yourself
1.	Think of yourself as the vehicle to your dreams. You deserve Honor and Respect.
2.	Create a list of all the things you can do. Read it and add to it often.
3.	Become aware of what is new each day. Remember today is your life, not just another day.
4.	Create a list of people you admire: people who have contributed to your life, your community, or the world. Consider what was important to their success and accomplishments.
5.	Walk with your head held high, supported by pride and confidence in yourself as a person.
6.	Don’t let anything keep you from activities that you enjoy.
7.	Wear comfortable clothes that you like, that express your personal style, and that feel good.
8.	Count your blessings, not your blemishes.
9.	Think about all the things you could accomplish with the time and energy you currently spend worrying. Try one!
10.	Be your own friend and supporter, not your enemy.
11.	Consider this: your skin replaces itself once a month, your stomach lining every five days, your liver every six weeks, and your skeleton every three months. You have new ideas every minute! You are extraordinary–respect and appreciate yourself.
12.	Every morning when you wake up, thank your body for resting and rejuvenating itself so you can enjoy the day. If you had a bad night, know that the day can only get better.
13.	Every evening when you go to bed, appreciate what you have accomplished the day.
14.	Find a method of exercise that you enjoy and do it regularly. Don’t exercise to lose weight or to fight your body. Do it to make your body healthy and strong and because it makes you feel good. Exercise for the Three F’s: Fun, Fitness, and Friendship.
15.	Think back to a time in your life when you looked forward to doing most everything. Tell yourself you can feel like that again. If you can’t remember, find a four-year-old and go to a park. When you get there, play “catch” until you laugh yourself silly.
16.	Keep a list of 10 positive things about yourself. Add to it!
17.	Put a sign on each of your mirrors that says something that makes you smile.
18.	Choose to find the beauty in the world and in yourself.
19.	Start saying to yourself, “Life is too short to waste time.” Let negative emotions go.
20.	Eat when you are hungry. Rest when you are tired. Surround yourself with people that remind you of your inner strength and beauty.

Dear Noname,

You be strong! You are smart and funny and NOT pretty- you are BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING and STUNNING in every way!

Smile right now, while you're reading this. Just do it, actually smile in front of this screen. Close your eyes, grin, and open your window. Stick your head out and laugh out loud! Go hug your dog and SMILE! Tell your friend you love them! Put on some clothes that make you feel as beautiful as you are! Go get 'em, girl!

On the other hand, so may actually be depressed, which is a real medical condition that you need medicine for and stuff. See a doctor or a therapist. You are worth whatever cost it has, and I truly believe that. You are worth so much that the equivalent amount of money hasn't been invented yet!

I wish you the best and hope you remember how great you really are. I am not part of this site. I know it doesn't always cheer people up.

Cry for a while to get it all out and then smile.

Love,

Me

Why? If you just think about it, it seems that telling yourself how great you are is pointless and that this list is just a decoration. If you ACTUALLY do them, you will feel encouraged as when someone else says it to you and gives you a big hug after a bad day.
