New Years’ Eve Notes – December 31, 2009

by Caitlin on December 31, 2009

Resolve to be KIND to yourself in 2010!  Happy New Year’s Eve from Operation Beautiful!

Katie wrote, “A close friend of mine was dumped by her boyfriend last night, and she is, understandably, really upset about it. All day I was feeling off, as I’ve been having boy trouble’s of my own. My mum decided this afternoon that she and I to would go see a chick flick at the movies, so I took it as an opportunity to put up some encouraging notes in our local cinema bathroom in Victoria Point, QLD, Australia. I hope that another woman, may she be going through boy troubles of her own or not, will see it and feel empowered and overall beautiful.”

Rita wrote, “I found a note in a library book about eating disorders. I was in bed feeling rather depressed and loathsome…  it totally made me smile, especially when I looked up the website on my phone while still in bed. Thanks to whoever wrote the note. I’d love to meet u! I’ve put it right back into the book. I live in Plymouth.”

Natasha wrote, “I saw on operationbeautiful.com that someone had ordered custom www.operationbeautiful.comsticky notes. I thought that was a great idea – the URL was what had put me off from putting up notes everywhere I go! However, I am absolutely broke right now because of the Christmas season, so instead I dug up some nice parchment paper I had laying around from an old craft project and used my printer to print the URL on a bunch of the parchment paper, which I cut up. My roommate and I decided to take an idea from givesmehope.com and we went to the library – paying attention to the teen’s section, mostly – and put the notes in books about eating disorders and recovery. We used masking tape to stick it in so it would stay fairly well but wouldn’t damage the books. Cally, my roommate, drew nifty pictures on hers, but I’m not nearly as artistic so I just tried to make my messages uplifting.   We had so much fun doing this, and the great thing is that I can keep the notes in my wallet and put them anywhere, any time! There’s a wine walk in Carson City, where I live, every month and I think I’m going to do it next month and hit up the bathrooms at ALL of the local businesses that do it!”

I just spent two hours driving back from Victoria Point, so just knowing that someone is posting out there makes me feel so much better.

Yesterday, when i started reading this, i started crying. I had just recovered for a low point in my life, and had found a sticker on the mirror. It said and i quote ” Even in the darkest days your smile is still beautiful. OperationBeautiful.com.” One of my New Year’s Resultions this year is to smile at everyone i meet, thanks to this website.
