Monday Notes – November 9, 2009

Annie wrote, “At my school, on the day of a match for a sports team, we make locker signs, Last week I went around and put notes saying, "You’re beautiful! Don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise!" on any locker I saw with a girl’s name on the sign. Later that day, I found a lot of them in the trash and I was feeling very discourage. Friday morning, while walking to class, a girl happened to have her locker open.  And above everything else at the very top of her locker was my sticky note telling her she was beautiful. “

Jessica wrote, “My best friend (and college roommate) moved to the opposite side of the state last winter after graduating.  I was visiting her last weekend for her surprise birthday party and thought of Operation Beautiful.  I told my friend all about it and then posted this note on her  bathroom mirror before I left.”

Morgan said, “I live in a college dorm on sorority row, and a lot of the girls I know here have low self esteem.  I decided to make this and put it in the hallway of my dorm.  I hope it makes someone’s day better!”

T wrote, “I found a note at my high school today.  It said:  "Smile :) It’s more infectious than the flu." It made me smile, and when I pointed it out to my classmates, they all smiled too. I loved the saying, and thought I’d share it with Operation Beautiful!!!”

Ashley wrote, “I just discovered Operation Beautiful today while reading posts on GivesMeHope. As soon as I got to page two on this site, the first girl on October 18th caught my eye. She inspired me to do the same thing she did: post a note on Facebook and tag all the females I have on my list. Many of the girls and women I know are terribly self-conscious, and it makes me sad to know that. I hope I was able to make at least one of them smile with the note.”

Elizabeth wrote, “Today, I got on Dailybooth to update and check up on what people were up to.  I clicked the "People" tab and saw that this girl had posted pictures of her tummy saying "I wish i was still this tanned and skinny."  I told her "You are beautiful.  Don’t doubt that."  I’m glad to say I wasn’t the only one saying it.”

Jessica wrote, “I am currently a teaching assistant at the University of British Columbia and I thought that a fabulous way of promoting this movement is to spread it to the big lecture halls. Early one day, I snuck in one before any classes started and wrote this on the chalkboard at the front. I figured it will be seen by 300 students per hour throughout the course of the day! I chose to write "Believe in yourself, inside and out!" to apply to everyone, not just girls and also to students who are under the stress of writing midterms and papers.”

Chelsea wrote, “Today is my mom’s 43rd birthday and she was feeling down about herself because she’s sick and "old".  So I thought it would be nice to put these all over her mirror in her room, and I was right :)   She started crying the happiest tears I’ve ever seen.”

Kelsey wrote, “I have been feeling really down about myself lately, and when I came across operation beautiful I decided to make some of my own. I put sticky notes around my school, and just the thought that I could be making a difference in someone else’s day makes me feel beautiful!”
