Monday Notes – July 20, 2009

by Caitlin on July 20, 2009

A Message From Caitlin:  If you have participated in Operation Beautiful and it has had a profound impact on your outlook, I would love to hear from you.  Operation Beautiful is beginning to spread farther than I could’ve ever imagined, and I need to speak to a few women with special experiences.  If you have a great Operation Beautiful story to tell, please e-mail me at seebriderun@gmail.com!  Thank you in advance!

For the last week or so, we’ve been following Monica from Run, Eat, Repeat as she took a cross-country tour called "Where in the USA is Monica?"  As she drove across American, she spread the Operation Beautiful love to seven cities!   On Saturday, Monica hinted that her final destination would be "one segment of the Triple Crown" and that the city’s name in Irish dialect means “Town of the Big House.”   If you guessed she was going to Baltimore, you are correct!

Regarding her cross-country trip, Monica said, "Along the way I left over 200 notes. I was shooting for more, but I didn’t want to leave more than 1 or 2 notes at each location for fear of people being distracted by the “noise” of post-its everywhere and missing the message.  It was a great experience to put the note on bathroom mirrors as I walked into the restroom and then see people read it as I washed my hands. Just making other girls and women smile is reason enough to participate!"

Monica continues: "It was also great for me personally since I wasn’t able to exercise or eat very healthy most of the time on the trip. Normally I would be upset that being on vacation was making me “fatter” and obsessing about my lack of running or eating crap. But, I didn’t let myself do that this time. I made the best of my trip and tried to enjoy myself.  No fat talk allowed on this road trip!"

A BIG THANK YOU to Monica for posting 200 notes across the country and letting us share her road trip!  Thanks, Monica!  Be sure to check out Monica’s personal blog, Run, Eat, Repeat!

Onto your regularly scheduled Operation Beautiful notes….

Kristin wrote, "Not only will you feel good by posting an Operation Beautiful note, but you will make someone else smile. Who knows…it could be someone who really needs a smile."  She put this note in a library book.

Michelle and Gaby wrote, "We found two large seashells on the beach in Lavallette, New Jersey, and wrote Operation: Beautiful notes inside of them :) The inside had our messages: "You are absolutely astonishing!" and "It’s gonna get better," and the outside read "Operation: Beautiful." A lifeguard spotted us, but didn’t move our shells, which we placed on top of a sand dune. We’re not sure if she took it, or someone else did, but when we came back a few hours later, it was gone! We hope we made someone’s day a little brighter!"

Amy got creative with her note and put it on a soap dispenser instead of the bathroom mirror!  :)

Christina loves the Operation Beautiful concept so much that she has started her own blog to document her notes!  She’s in South Africa.  Here are a few of the recent ones she’s posted on cars, in bathrooms, and in the library.

Leanne wrote to say, "First off I would like to say thanks so much for what you are doing. Really when I found this I felt SO drawn to it. I am turning 17 and this has impacted my life for good. This is something I am going to do for the rest of my life. Well this is the first time I have posted a note anywhere. It’s at a small restaurant in PA."

Michael said, "I heard about your mission the other day and thought it is a WONDERFUL THING that you have started here.  I don’t have a picture to post yet, but I mentioned the idea to my Manager at work.  I am an Activities Specialist at one of our local Nursing Homes, and she thinks it is a great idea and invited me to get started.   I’m going to work tomorrow with a stack of post it notes.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to take any pictures, but I wanted you to know that I’m joining the mission!"

Lauren said, "I posted a couple of these little notes today when I was out to eat. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera with me to take pictures; possibly someone else would find it and go to this site? I hope…that would make my day if one of my notes, empowered someone else… Looking forward to Posting More Notes!"

Kitana put up this pretty note in a bathroom:

I have had an eating disorder for 11 years now (I’m 19). It’s been particularly bad recently. But you’ve given me some hope. Thank you. (I don’t think you know how rare a thing hope is for me. Thank you again, you’re doing a great thing)
