Monday Notes – February 8, 2010

Ashleigh wrote, “Yesterday my sister and I were eating in a busy food court and there was a cleaning lady tiredly picking up after all the patrons.  As I put rubbish in the bin, I slipped an Operation Beautiful post-it on her cart. It said "Your smile brightens everyday." She saw it and began beaming. What did she do? She peeled of the sticker snuck over to a fellow cleaning lady’s cart and stuck it to hers. I’ve never heard anyone gush so much!

Later,  I visited my ninety year-old grandfather in rehab.  I slipped down the hallway posting notes saying, "You may only be one person in the world, But you may be the world to one person" on the doors of occupied rooms. As I was leaving, I saw a nurse point it out to a particularly immobile patient as she took her back to her room. Once the nurse left, the little lady struggled back at with only a walker for help and peeled the note off her door  – smiling all the way!

I handed our last note to a lady waiting along out the front. She started crying. Words do have power.”

Sophia wrote, “After discovering Operation Beautiful last night, I decided to hunt down some post it notes.  I then put them everywhere at my college that I knew a girl would see.  My best friend even joined in, and I think we posted around 40 in all  – and that was just today.  We’ll make at least one person smile, and that’s enough for me!”

Emily wrote, “I found out about Operation Beautiful a couple months ago, and I recently told a friend of mine about it.  We made a bunch of notes and posted them all around a shopping center by my house. It was super fun, and I love that something this simple and easy can change so many lives.”

I love all the notes today. The nursing home one is an especially good idea! Yay for believing in ourselves!

I love that that old lady struggled all the way back just to get the note!
