Monday Notes – August 31, 2009

by Caitlin on August 31, 2009

A Message from Caitlin:  Happy Monday!  We all need a little positivity on Monday more than any other day.  Post a note, take a picture, and send it to me at seebriderun@gmail.com!  Spread the love!

Kaylie wrote, “I didn’t do a post it note, but I wrote in someone’s honesty box on Facebook.  All I said was “you’re beautiful” and she asked who I was, and I said “Some one who thinks you’re very very pretty!” Her status on Facebook right now is “I would like to know who wrote in my honesty box, cause it made me day <3.”  I feel so accomplished!”

Lisa wrote, “I would like to say that although I am a very thin girl, I too, get really insecure about my weight, and often compare myself to girl’s with fuller figures. I cringe at the term ‘real women have curves’ because I look at myself and see none, and often question the fact whether I am indeed a ‘real woman’. I cry when I’m told I’m not a real women. This site has given me hope to love myself again.”

Bridget wrote, “I was at my state’s State Fair on Sunday, my birthday, I was very unhappy that I had to be there, of all places, on my birthday. I went into the restroom and found a damp lime green sticky note next to one of the sinks that said, “Hey Beautiful!” with this website’s name. It brightened my day.”

Kate wrote, “The bathrooms in my office have the WORST lighting. I go in there and pick apart my skin, my hair, my face, myself. I know others do it as well.”

Smiley wrote, “So today I was shopping with some friends and we went into an accessory store. I was looking at things when I came across a set of mirrors with writing on them. When I read the writing, I saw that it said things like “Does this make me look fat?” and “Are you really wearing that?” I was shocked. This store tends to attract younger girls, either in their young teens or pre-teens, and here they’re selling products that make you doubt your appearance whenever you see them. I really think everyone needs to learn that EVERYONE is beautiful. Luckily, I had my Post-its with me and I posted an Operation Beautiful note right on the display, so I hope I help somebody feel better about themselves, and not listen to hurtful things being sold to them.”

Jocee wrote, “My friend & I went around the mall and stuck sticky notes all over the place . We both love Operation Beautiful!”

And here is an AMAZING story of an Operation Beautiful note that was left on a public mirror for more than a month and a half!  Rachel wrote, “When I first stumbled on your site I left one of my very first post-its in the ladies room at my church.  It said simply “you’re beautiful just the way you are” with Operation Beautiful’s website at the bottom.  That was the end of June.  I never use the bathroom at church, and this past Sunday I had to take my 3 year old daughter in.  The note was still on the mirror in the same spot.  It had water spots on it, but IT WAS THERE.  It made me feel so good that I decided it was time to leave a new note.  This is what I left.”

We have taken this one step further than the post its. We have written up heaps on pretty paper and even printed some out and will be dropping them randomly in mailboxes in our area.
Also thinking of slipping them into DVD covers before returning them etc.
