The Mission

The goal of the Operation Beautiful website is to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk.”  If this little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is  — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Through my own experiences fighting Fat Talk, I’ve realized the power behind an anonymous act such as Operation Beautiful.  When I post a note, I’m saying, “I CHOOSE to be positive!”

I began Operation Beautiful by leaving positive messages on the mirrors of public restrooms — at work, at the gym, at the grocery store.  I scribble down whatever comes to mind — "You are beautiful!" or "You are amazing just the way you are!"  My personal goal is to leave as many Operation Beautiful notes as I can. Maybe some people read them and just smile, but I bet some people are truly touched by the effort of a random stranger.

Operation Beautiful is simple: all you need is a pen and a piece of paper.  If you want to join the mission, send me an e-mail at OperationBeautiful@gmail.com with a photograph of your Operation Beautiful note or a description of your experience, and I’ll post it on the Operation Beautiful site for thousands of others to read and enjoy!

Operation Beautiful works closely with the following organizations:

Oh, wow! This sounds like a wonderful thing! I just found this site on Mystery Google/Seeker. I’m going to post notes, and tell my friends about it:)

When I was little I was sooooo self conscious of my weight and how I looked, but I think if I had seen one of these notes, it would have made me really happy:)

that’s an awesome idea! that way you can just write on the mirrors but its easier for the janitors to clean up and no trees die!

I’ve been reading GMH nonstop tonight, and I found the link to here. Thank you for this! I’ve been trying to think of a way to help all my girl friends who think they’re fat or not pretty enough that they are gorgeous. As soon as I go somewhere, and when school starts back, I’ll have sticky notes everywhere. :]

Today I walked into the girls’ bathroom during first period and saw a strange little sticky note on the mirror. i ignored it at first, but curiosity took over and I just had to check it out. I stepped closer and read the note:
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL JUST THE WAY YOU ARE <3 operationbeautiful.com
I was immediately inspired; that sticky note made my morning. :) I plan on posting as many sticky notes as possible tomorrow. I thank all who use this website, for I know if one little sticky note made me feel better, I can only imagine what millions have done. Keep it up please! :)

Keep up the amazing work.

I have recently begun doing this. I made a whole post-it note pack worth of beautiful comments and posted them around my school. My school is seriously too uptight about looks, and I’d love to make someone’s day.

I think this is a great idea and I’m tired of fat talking myself!

NO MORE FAT TALK!

This site is truly making a difference. I have recently become addicted to diet pills. I’m 14 years old and I weigh 107lbs. The pills caused me to lose three more pounds. Now I weight 100lbs after a month. I was never happy with the way I looked until now. After this site, I stopped taking the pills and see myself as a gorgeous girl for once.

My friend told me about thsi website and I’m extremely glad, sometimes its hard for me just to get up in the mornings. Because I know I’ll have to get up and face myself.
Face-to-face, in the mirror.
Its an extremly scary concept…and, oviously, its only magnified by the fact I do not like my body.

I’m 12, I’m still growing, learning and developing, but at night my thoughts are usally scattered but, more often than not, I’ll end up thinking about one particular thing…
My future.
And more importantly, my body IN the future. What it will be like, what it’ll look like, if I’ll like it or not, if I’l be fat…etc.

I’m hoping by starting to write some notes that I’ll be able to put a smile on my face, and hopefully heaps of other tweens, like myself, teenagers and older women.

:]

Dee.

Hey!
I love this, I just thought you would like to know we’re making it happen over here in England too!
I saw this website and posted a few around in the girl’s toilets at college and found the best place is on the back of the doors!
A couple of my friends commented on them and wondered who was doing it and couldn’t believe it when I said I did it!
Now we’re on our own little mission to make everyone feel better including the guys with comments like “How are you doing today handsome?” and even the teachers by slipping post-its in our work saying “You’re doing a great job teaching us, keep it up!” or “You inspire us, keep on smiling!” Sometimes we just hand them out to random people in the street and people always smile once they read it.
WE LOVE THIS PROJECT!

I saw tiny, bright pink post-its on every mirror in a large hotel restroom yesterday with lovely things written on them and I was truly touched by the effort.

Toxic speech is something so few people think about, but almost all engage in. Bringing it to the forefront of people’s thoughts (especially women) is a brave a beautiful gesture. Thank you for starting this. May it touch every caged bird and allow her to fly. <3

I was having a rough monday today and during a washroom break I saw a post it note on a mirror. One said: “You are beautiful” and the other said “great shoes” both with the website on them. I went in with a frown and a low mood and left a little higher and a smile on my face. Those post its were in the right place at the right time.
thank you

I began to see all these post-its in the main bathroom off the commons in my large and over crowded high school, people were saying it was stupid, but i think that its above and beyond, especially in high school where everything is centered around looks for a female.
I love this idea!

So many of my friends think that they are fat. I’m going to start this in hope that they start to believe in themselves. Im quite big, should you say, and there are many people who call me fat. But to be honest I LOVE the way I am, and I don’t really want to change the way I am. I just hope that my friends realize that they are beautiful no matter what any one says. This is a great inspiration to me. Hope it is to friends, family and others.
