The Mission

The goal of the Operation Beautiful website is to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk.”  If this little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is  — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Through my own experiences fighting Fat Talk, I’ve realized the power behind an anonymous act such as Operation Beautiful.  When I post a note, I’m saying, “I CHOOSE to be positive!”

I began Operation Beautiful by leaving positive messages on the mirrors of public restrooms — at work, at the gym, at the grocery store.  I scribble down whatever comes to mind — "You are beautiful!" or "You are amazing just the way you are!"  My personal goal is to leave as many Operation Beautiful notes as I can. Maybe some people read them and just smile, but I bet some people are truly touched by the effort of a random stranger.

Operation Beautiful is simple: all you need is a pen and a piece of paper.  If you want to join the mission, send me an e-mail at OperationBeautiful@gmail.com with a photograph of your Operation Beautiful note or a description of your experience, and I’ll post it on the Operation Beautiful site for thousands of others to read and enjoy!

Me and my bestfriend were on GMH oneday, and came across this website, we have never seen any messages, so we’ve decided to start.
I think this is amazing, i’ve never seen something so truthful, everyone is beautiful in their very own way :) .

I found this on a person’s profile at the site “fanfiction.net”. I am only a ‘kid’, but I know girls like me suffer from hearing the abuse of fat talk every day. I’m going to start this at my school by posting it on the bathroom mirror. I’ll post up more notes when I find a good place where I know a girl will find it. All I hope is that I can make somebody smile. I don’t want any hate comments, but if someone insecure wants to, go ahead. I don’t care, my message is clear. Everyone is beautiful, just the way you are!

Hey, this is cool! I found a sticky note that says let your inner beauty shine, and I took it so I could look up the website. I was expecting to find someone selling something. What a pleasant surprise, I will pass it along by leaving some notes myself! Great idea!!

I realize that this site is about ‘Fat talk’ and even though I am the opposite and have been told that I am too skinny this site is the coolest thing ever. I hate it when my friends compare themselves to me and say that it is unfair that I am so skinny. It’s the way I am so they should deal with it and accept themselves. When we saw operationbeautiful.com sticky notes at my middle school today all of my friends smiled and it truly made my day. Great idea!! :)

I posted my first note at my school on a bathroom miror. It was the simple “Smile you look beautiful today” post it. I hope I made someone’s day. I can’t wait til it catches on. I, myself am not exactly what people would call “skinny” but hey, I like myself.

I love how much this is spreading. Internationally people will realize that they are beautiful.

Tomorrow, I’m gonna shop for some more post-its, and next week, the whole school building will be filled with bright messages! :D

So today, after learning about this website last night, and writing on a ton of stickynotes, I posted them all over my school.
Later I found them all over the floor and such. But as my friends saw them, I saw their face light up. It was a great feeling.

Every time i go in that bathroom i check it, and always find someone looking @ it. Also i put a post it in the locker room saying “No one works a PE uniform like you!” every1 loved it! Oh and hey CurlyCarly ;)

I go to an all-girl Catholic school and there are many girls here lacking confidence. I solemnly believe that Operation Beautiful can save lives. It makes me feel so happy and although many people probably don’t understand what’s going on now, they’ll let their guards down and realize: people have the ability to be nice. Thanks for reminding me that I’m beautiful.

Chrissy December 18, 2009 at 6:59 pm

This whole thing is beautiful. In my bathroom at school I read on a napkin where a girl posted one of these. It’s touching. I am a skinny girl, and have at times been made fun of for being thin. Or been accused of having an eating disorder. I believe God has made everyone beautiful. Regardless of their size.

Hey, i saw a note on the mirror at the shops today… it brought a huge smile to my face to realise that there are people out there who care about someone they don’t even know… it’s inspiring and very refreshing!!
I had a friend at scholl who was naturally very thin and she was hurt when people would say things about her being “so” skinny… i think it is important to help people realise they are beautiful, no matter what… thin or curvy!!

If I had had this a few years ago when I was almost suicidal because of the way I was, I’d be a totally better person now. But now I suffer slight depression and anxiety problems. I cant stand in front of a classroom, or go anywhere without making sure I look the best I can and I still get crude things said about me. I am so moved by this website.
