The Mission

The goal of the Operation Beautiful website is to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk.”  If this little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is  — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Through my own experiences fighting Fat Talk, I’ve realized the power behind an anonymous act such as Operation Beautiful.  When I post a note, I’m saying, “I CHOOSE to be positive!”

I began Operation Beautiful by leaving positive messages on the mirrors of public restrooms — at work, at the gym, at the grocery store.  I scribble down whatever comes to mind — "You are beautiful!" or "You are amazing just the way you are!"  My personal goal is to leave as many Operation Beautiful notes as I can. Maybe some people read them and just smile, but I bet some people are truly touched by the effort of a random stranger.

Operation Beautiful is simple: all you need is a pen and a piece of paper.  If you want to join the mission, send me an e-mail at OperationBeautiful@gmail.com with a photograph of your Operation Beautiful note or a description of your experience, and I’ll post it on the Operation Beautiful site for thousands of others to read and enjoy!

I’ve known so many people with problems of how they look, and coming across this website showed me that there’s hope. I think this is very inspiring. Thank you.

I found out about this site last year and it has really helped me. Everyone says I’m really skinny and beautiful but there’s just part of me that feels like they don’t mean it. But this site has helped a little with my confidence and I started putting the daily quote on my laptop and I’m going to start putting the quotes in my classes and in the bathrooms at school. <3

I just found this website, because my bestfriend send it to me, just for inspiriation for our essay. Your mission inspires me, just because I know the the pressure that many women feel, so do I, to must be beautiful. Thank you & keep up the good work!

someone in my school left a note saying ‘you are beautiful, don’t let others judge you, be your own person’ on the bathroom mirror,
it didnt mean anything to me, because people dont usualy get through to me very easily, but just the fact that someone made the effort to write that had me smiling for the rest of the day :)

I just found this site off GivesMeHope.com, and, because a while ago I decided I’ma try to be nicer to people, I’ve decided I’m going to try this when school starts again, and at climbing. (Currently holidays.)

I found a note at the school gym today, posted on the scale that stated, “You are BEAUTIFUL, just the way you are.” and then this web address written in at the bottom. I took a picture of it and smiled to myself. I truly had no intention of weighing myself because I find that the number on the scale promotes my own negative self talk. I stopped weighing myself a month ago when I found that working out 3x a week was actually in creasing that number, even though I was seeing improvements in my body. The real goal IS to live healthy. If my body is happy at 200lbs (at 6 feet tall) then so be it. I love this message. Thank you.

Me and a friend of mine started doing this, leaving post-its around our school, hoping to brighten someone’s day. Even though it goes against the rules.

I found a note on my classroom door at school today. I was touched to get a sweet message from an anonymous person. I knew it was probably one of my students. I have been having a rough year with being sick. Seeing this note touched my heart and soul. Later in the day I think the student who left the note nearly broke her toe falling down the stairs at the school (right after leaving the note). This made me feel guilty. She made my day. I hope her toe isn’t broken!

You know, I was thinking about doing something like this in my daily life because I think people need this sort of motivation. Finding this site gave me the extra push I needed to put sticky notes everywhere I see fit for one (or more!!). =]

I see these notes all over my school, and i always think back to when I would hurt myself and how I felt. Whenever I see those notes now, it makes me remember. How i feel about myself isn’t very high, so what you guys are doing really does touch people. I know that when i’m having a bad day I like seeing those notes to remind me.

I used to cut myself and truly hate who I was.
Then I started to grasp the fact that I’m on this earth for a reason and that every single person is beautiful in their own shining way.
I love you! :]

I was having an awful day and was feeling pretty low and then I walked out of the mall and found a post-it note on the garbage can.

“you are beautiful no matter what the scale says. operationbeautiful.com”

Thank you to whoever left that note. It made my day a little bit better. :)

I saw this article in glamour magazine and was truly inspired!!! it was almost like a lightswitch how instantly my mindframe changed from self disgust to pure acceptance!! i dont know how to explain it. im just making a promise to remind myself everyday, “im ok with who i am.” and im pledging to share and inspire others everyday, because im proof that a random reminder left somewhere unexpectadly can change and tranform your whole outlook on life and breed happiness in others!!! THANK YOU

I was Six Flags Magic Mountain yesterday, and saw a post it with “You are beautiful just the way you are. operationbeautiful.com” and it made me smile so I took a picture of it and it’s now the wallpaper on my phone so every time I look at my phone I am reminded, I personally have body issues and seeing that post it, and now this website and inspired me to start letting go of my insecurities and realize how beautiful I am. Thank You so much for what you are doing.

I saw this site during the summer holidays and since I’ve been back to school I posted some post-it notes saying ‘Don’t worry. You’re Beautiful.’ They were taken down by the next day and I was worried people weren’t seeing them, so I posted more. Today on facebook I saw someone had posted a picture of my note and the caption said ‘Whoever posted this at MB, you gmh!’ It absolutely made my day that someone had felt better because of my note.

My friend Abbie and I have really commited to changing the fat talk, we are starting with the girls in our youth group and school. Our first step was posting notes around our church so when the girls came in for youth group that night they would see them, our next step was to hand out post it notes and send the girls out to post them everywhere and start making a difference. All of us girls struggle with this, but I confident that taking little steps can really transform our thoughts. This website was a God send to me in a wordl where they are constantly telling you that you are not good enough. God is constantly telling us that we are good enough, we are made in his image and he makes no mistakes. Praise God for your beauty!

This website as inspired me to go around my school and put up as many signs as possible I will even ask the teachers and princible to get involved. I understand how most girls feel even though I’m only 11. My main goal is to when people cut you down and say you ugly I want people to think:”just because they say I’m not beautiful doesn’t mean I am. If I want to be beautiful then I am! It’s the inside that really matters. It their loss not mine.”
AND YES YOU ALL ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!! Love to you all- Linzy

I just saw one…well, several of these notes in the girls’ bathroom at my school today. I suppose I was more of the ‘see it and smile’ girl, but it made me feel better about the ‘mood’ of my school. It made me feel like we were trying to make a difference in the way we see each other. With enough effort, I think this could completely change the way that we, as Americans (or whatever nationality you are) socialize. I totally support this group with all my heart. Oh, plus, it doesn’t matter who you are, these notes ARE meant for YOU to read-because WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL.

I just read an article about a school sponsored club called: Redefining Beautiful: One Girl at a Time. It’s a great story about young women chosing not to wear make-up every Tuesday at school. Proving that they are beautiful just as they are. (It was from this article that I found the link to this site. It was a great discovery!)

I’m so inspired by reading everyone’s stories. Thank you for sharing the love.

I was thinking how it would be fun to place a post-it note in all the library books I read and share the love that way. Then the next person (guy or girl) that takes the book out will get a message of love. I think I’ll go post a message in our office restroom and share the love.

Thanks again for all that everyone is doing. :)

In my school, there’s really a big problem with bullying and ‘negative talk’. I was totally shocked when I walked into the bathroom to find an operation beautiful note on the mirror. I was even more shocked to find ANOTHER in the other bathrooms. I am totally in love with the message that’s being sent to everyone and its amazing that it can have such a positive impact:)
